Equipment enquiries: +1 (216) 206-8558
Start with what you need to observe, the available light and the conditions in which you will use the equipment. Thermal imaging and night vision use different approaches; neither label alone tells you how a particular model will perform.
Different ways of forming an image
Thermal equipment detects thermal infrared energy and displays differences in the scene. It does not require visible illumination. Image-intensifying night vision amplifies available light. Digital night vision uses an electronic sensor and may use an infrared illuminator in dark conditions. Check the manufacturer’s description to establish which technology a model uses.
Compare the complete system
Review field of view, magnification, image detail, battery requirements and compatibility. A device detecting a heat signature does not establish identification or safe use. Use equipment within its manual, local requirements and your actual observation conditions.
